Fun with Birthday Party Favors

Favors have come along way since plastic swans filled with chalky mints wrapped in pastel colored tulle. You can have fun with favors for any occasion, weddings, birthdays, showers even dinner parties. We've recently created a cute favor for a special little girls' birthday party. We decided to take advantage of the time of year to come up with our theme. With Spring in the air we went with a cute fun favor for kids to enjoy all spring long.

We started with a small terra-cotta pot, attached a pastel purple bow to the brim, filled it with green easter grass and started filling it with kiddie goodies. Each pot had a pack of flower seeds, a pin wheel flower pot stick and a plastic carrot filled with gummy worms (had to add some sweetness to it). For an extra touch of spring we sprinkled some confetti homemade with a butterfly punch using different colored pastel printed paper. To wrap up this favor we placed each flower pot into a brown kraft bag. Holding each bag shut was a small clothes pin with butterflies.

Need a theme for your kiddie birthday party that's not a cartoon character? Take advantage of the time of year or the holiday that month. We did!! With it being spring and so close to Easter we were able to find lots of items to fill this favor like the plastic carrots that are meant for Easter baskets.

Tired of the normal plastic goodie bags filled with wholesale candy and silly toys? Here are some ideas you can do for a creative fun filled party favor.

January- have a calender favor for kids to decorate. Print out blank calender pages, include a pack of crayons and some holiday stickers.

February- Lots can be done with valentines day. Hearts, cookies, candy oh my.

March- Spring time, Easter, St.Pattys day and Mardi Gras. Who needs a pool party when you have all this going on?  Have bags filled with beads, and a mask for kids to decorate. Go crazy with rainbows and pots of gold. Rainbow theme parties are a big hit this year - starting with the favor to the rainbow cake there's plenty you can do.

April- Easter can still be an option this month along with April showers. Have a rain bucket favor (we'll say the sand bucket is a rain bucket) fill it with bubbles, sunglasses and a rubber ducky.

May- Summer is approaching and the pools will be uncovered and ready to go. Don't feel like doing the pool party this year. Go with a red, white and blue theme. If you kids are old enough break out the sparklers for a cool fire cracker theme favor. Or get them ready for summer. Get large plastic travel drinking cups they can take with them all summer long and fill them with goodies or different packs of Kool Aid.

June-July-August- POOL - BEACH - POOL - BEACH. So much to do in these months. Take advantage of the great weather and have fun outdoors. Picnics, bbq's and play time at the park. Favors can scream sunshine and sand. Plastic buckets filled with sidewalk chalk, bubbles, beach balls, packs of goldfish and funky sunglasses.

September- with summer coming to an end you may want to still hold onto that sunshine this month. If not get them ready for school. Give out pencil case favors with erasers, pencils, crayons and stickers.

October- Halloween... need we say more? Have your party at a corn maze, pumpkin patch or turn your own home into a haunted house. Give little pumpkins favors for them to decorate when they go home. Include a marker and battery operated tea light.

November- A month to be thankful. Have your child personalize favor bags with a tags that says "I am thankful you are my friend". Also a perfect month for fall favors, decorate them with leaves and apples. Or create a single s'more favor for indoor fireplaces. If the recipient doesn't have a fireplace make a hot cocoa favor with single packets of hot cocoa, marshmallows and peppermint sticks.

December- what an easy month for favor ideas. With the stores overflowing with Christmas decorations you can't go wrong. From stockings to ornaments you can get really creative. Use candy canes turned into reindeer or if the birthday is in the beginning of the month print out Christmas list for the kids to send to Santa along with a decorative envelope.

Look for upcoming blogs on favor ideas. We might even try to do a favor each month, with pictures and description.
